Flowers are meant to speak what words cannot.
Are you ready for an enchanted floral journey?
In December 2021, we were contacted by Bottega Veneta (yes, THE Bottega Veneta) to be a seasonal in-house florist for their Pavillion and Kuala Lumpur City Centre outlets. Who would have thought after the 2-year-long Covid-19 roller coaster we would have such an opportunity?
When we really think about it, it really wasn’t too long ago when we had to close down our shop for months on end in 2019. Having this opportunity with Bottega Veneta was like a dream come true; and while we had a couple of offers by other brands around the same time, this really marked a significant point in our journey as Hobby Florist KL — from a home-based florist to now a common marketplace for fresh blooms in Klang Valley.
In case if you’re out of the loop on the fashion world, let’s give you a little brief rundown on who we were working with.
Bottega Veneta is basically the genius brand behind popularising the hottest new colour in fashion known as ‘Kelly Green’, a vibrant shade of green has been seen on luxury leather bags and the trendiest of fashion accessories.
For Italian luxury company Bottega Veneta, choosing a simple colour to compliment Kelly Green just isn’t enough. We wanted to choose the right type of blooms to match their style and personality, and ensure that guests will remember this event and brand for a long time to come. It’s also about how the blooms will interact with the product’s textures, how it can be resented, and what new connections we can make such that the guests feel good during their shopping experience.
It didn’t take too long, however, to decide that our Signature Tulips were the best bet for this event.

Tulips have historical importance all around the world, although they were brought to the Netherlands from Turkey in the late 16th century. They were a rarity and a sign of financial stability and royalty. However, little do most people know, the shape and vibrancy of the tulips we see today are a result of contracting the non-fatal mosaic virus, which led them to boast such iconic cup-shaped features, and causing these blooms to shoot up in terms of their market price.
As we need something vibrant to increase the overall atmosphere of the store, we choose to go with yellow and orange – a cheery colour that somehow just works incredibly great with the Kelly Green by Bottega Veneta.
As we need something vibrant to increase the overall atmosphere of the store, we choose to go with yellow – a cheery colour that somehow just works incredibly great with the Kelly Green by Bottega Veneta. If we dive deep into the history of tulips, yellow tulips used to be associated with hopeless love and jealousy. As a result of a cultural shift, tulips in yellow are now a symbol of joy, jubilation, and optimism.
In the Victorian language of love, yellow tulips are known to represent the “sunshine in your smile”. Having yellow tulips displayed in your house is also said to bring good fortune and wealth to your house – and certainty, having Tulips to match with Bottega Veneta just ticks all the boxes we need to make a meaningful association.
Colors like orange are known for warming the body and mind. Giving an orange tulip to a friend or family member may convey your appreciation for their positive energy and your gratitude for their presence in your life.
Hence, to give orange tulips to a special someone communicates how much you care about them and how committed you are to one other – and in this light these intrinsic meanings go hand-in-hand with how Bottega Veneta can bond with its loyal patrons.
All in all, our floral designers decided that Tulips are amazing choice to make a lasting impression, especially given their underlying connotations and how the vibrant yellow and orange tint brightens up the entire space. We believe that enhancing a brand is not about what you say, but how you make your customers feel.
We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity with Bottega Veneta, and it was extremely fun getting to know the staffs in the KLCC and Pavillion outlets. A quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson sums it up: “Many eyes pass through the meadow, but few notice the flowers.” Our everyday lives are full of noise and commotion, making it easy to forget to appreciate the wonderful (often little) things that get swept away by it all.
Especially with our Signature Tulips – we always hope that they have made every customer and staff’s day even a little better.
